As a freshman I was elected to be class vice president where I worked with my peers to increase engagement for our student government, host events, and serve our class. Sophomore year, I earned the role of Vice President of Student Government Affairs(Student Body Vice President) where I worked closely with the executive team of BSG. Working with BSG was truly a joy of mine so although I'm taking a step back and have chosen not to take on a role, I will be working closely with the new President and Vice President to advise them and ensure the success of BSG. Working with BSG helped me realize the joy of working with a team in a corporate-like setting and also discover the PM role.
- Ratifying a weeklong thanksgiving break by surveying student opinion, communicating effectively with faculty, and collaborating with the president of the college. My individual contributions involved proposing to the executive team that we utilize a student-wide survey to present to the faculty, working with the student athletes, and finalizing the survey results briefing to be presented.
- Rewriting the constitution. This was a project I led which involved rearranging excerpts from the previous constitution, condensing and organizing several sections to make it more clear, and delegated the writing of certain roles and responsibilities to members of the executive team.
- Increasing participation internally and externally after a slight dip due to Covid. The lack of engagement and participation from students resulted from the inability to be a part of campus life as it once was before Covid restrictions were introduced to the college. This year, we focused on targeting motivated underclassmen who had never experience Covid during college. Our goal was to train and encourage students to become leaders even as first-years so that we could ensure the strong continuation of BSG. Starting new traditions like a semesterly retreat, executive team dinners, and other forms of team bonding ended up increasing meeting attendance and almost doubled the number of active members in BSG in comparison to the year before.
Starting off as an engaged member who attended the weekly meetings, I was invited to apply for the role of Treasurer for my sophomore year. Taking on this role, I became a part of the leadership committee which met bi-weekly with administrators of the athletic department and our club advisors. We used this as an opportunity to advocate for athletes of color and ensure that there are proper measures in place to encourage conversation among student athletes and learn more about diversity, equity, and inclusion. I am proud to say I will continue working with AOCC as the vice president of internal affairs for the 2024-25 academic year.
- Annually holding a flag football tournament that fundraises for Strong Girls United and boosts comradery among female athletic teams.
- I spearheaded several collaborations involving the Bowdoin Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Baxter House(the college house system at Bowdoin), and Alumni relations to host events that increased participation across campus and the club's visibility.
With my connections in student government, I was approached by a classmate to join him as a co-organizer and bring back TedxBowdoinCollege. My classmate had experience on the Tedx side of things while I had the resources to speedily recharter the club and get funding. I was also extremely excited at the opportunity to bring a well known entity to Bowdoin and connect with alumni, faculty, and students who have "ideas worth spreading."
- We hosted our first TedxBowdoinCollege event as a reinstated club! We hosted talks from several students, faculty members, and a special guest alumn. As a co-organizer on the team, I helped to book the space, handle reservations, advertising to the greater Brunswick community, and directing team members to administrators, staff, and faculty that would help us to make this event possible.
